For Finlay Donovan is Killing It spoilers, read on. The first book in the Finlay Donovan series sets the scene of Finlay’s life with her two young children. She’s a single mom, struggling to make ends meet with her career in writing. Her life turns upside down when she’s talking to her publisher in Panera about her next thriller book and someone overhears her and thinks that she’s literally a hitman. From that moment on, Finlay gets wrapped up in a job that requires her to kill a woman’s husband, and before refusing the job she meets the guy to see what he’s like.
The man then actually dies and she has to get rid of the body, cue in her babysitter Vero to the rescue to help her bury the body. From there we follow the two women and their investigation to find out who hired them, all while maintaining Finlay’s single mom life. It’s hysterical and such a fun read. I love the tie into her single mom life, and the mix of heart-racing moments. I thought it was going to be too over-the-top, but it hit the right balance.
